Claire N Pappas

January 4, 1926 - February 2, 2022

Pappas, Claire N. 96, of Pomona, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 2, 2022. She was born in Newark, NJ to Dennis and Alice Karambelas who predeceased her. Married to William Pappas in 1961 and moved from East Orange, NJ to Pomona. She was predeceased by her husband William and brothers Pete and Steve and sister Julie Drivas. She leaves behind her beloved sons Chris, Steve and William (Jill) and her adorable grandchildren Courtney Eble, Carley, Amber, Blake and Chris Dallas Pappas, JR , and Chad, and also Goddaughter and niece Margie Dickinson and Goddaughter Donna Estofos, also, beloved nephews Peter Drivas and Dennis Karambelas. Claire loved babysitting her grandchildren who brought great joy into her life. Prior to her marriage she worked as Executive Assistant to Victor Paul president and owner of the Wiss Stores located in Newark, Montclair and East Orange, NJ. She received the Bamberger Medal for Scholarship and the American Legion Medal of Honor for Scholarship and character upon graduating from Central High School in Newark, NJ. Claire was past recording secretary (a position she held for 26 years) of ARMC Auxiliary. Claire was also a member and past president of Philoptochos Society (and friends of the poor) of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Egg Harbor Twp. and chaired numerous luncheons and dinners for Philoptochos. She was also past President of Pomona, PTA, Absegami Booster Club and American Legion Auxiliary, Newark, NJ Chapter. Claire enjoyed attending her son’s basketball, football, and baseball games for over 35 years, never missing a game. She was her son’s biggest fan, and this brought her great joy throughout her life. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, from 10:00 to11:00am., followed by Mass. Interment will follow in the Laurel Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Egg Harbor Twp., or ARMC Auxiliary, Pomona Campus, Pomona, NJ.
