Ethel Mick

March 13, 2012

Ethel was born in and raised in Philadelphia. After she graduated high school she moved to Atlantic City, NJ to obtain her nursing degree. She met and married her husband Haines after nursing school . He left for war three weeks later. Three years later he returned and he and Ethel took up residence in Egg Harbor City, NJ. Together they had one child, a daughter Pat. Haines passed away at age 78 . Six Years ago Ethel moved to an assisted living facility in Ocean Grove, NJ to be closer to her daughter Pat. She loved her nursing profession and was always available to any friend, relative or neighbor that needed her skills. Even in her last years due to a stroke while she resided at Manor by the sea nursing home, she could be seen traveling the halls in her wheelchair, holding a residents hand who appeared to be in distress or alerting the nursing staff when she noticed a particular problem with any of the residents. NO BINGO FOR ETHEL!!!!! She wanted to work and be useful. During her life Ether worked at Atlantic City Hospital, did private duty nursing, and was a nurse at Our Ladies Residence in Pleasantville. She was a great cook and at various picnics, her baked beans and Potatoe salad were legendary. She loved dogs, warm weather, the ocean and swimming. She spent many summers in Ocean City with her daughter and her twin sisters' family. Ethel adored children her daughter Pat, nieces, nephews and her friends' children brought her such joy. Weather it be teaching them to do cartwheels, play cards or taking them crabbing she cherished every minute . She was a beloved mother , wife, aunt and friend who enriched our lives in countless ways and her boundless love, loyalty, energy and zest of life will live in our hearts and inspire us always.
