Type Obit HereTOLTOWICZ, JOHN JAMES - 82, of Galloway NJ, passed peacefully in his home on 13 May 2016, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Lee, his wife of 59 years, and family were by his side. John was born in Pringle PA on 19 Feb 1934 to the late John and Della Toltowicz. He is survived by his wife Leona "Lee" Mae Toltowicz nee Reecamper, four children, Robert, John, Linda, and Michael. Two sisters, Marie DelPriore and Jean Capriotti. Seven grandchildren, Matthew, Jessie, Cale, Nicklaus, Jaime, Emily, and John. Nine great-grandchildren, Allie, Jason, Dillon, Logan, Landon, Liam, Neveah, Matthew Jr., and Dean. John was proud of his military service, which began upon his enlistment in the Air Force on 26 May 1952 where he was trained as an Air Craft Mechanic. He left active duty in 1961 and joined the DC Air National Guard. In August of 1964 he accepted a position with the 177th Fighter Squadron, New Jersey Air National Guard, Pomona NJ where he and his wife raised their family. In February1988, he concurrently retired from the Air Force Reserve and from the NJANG with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He selflessly served his country for over 30 years. He will be remembered as a respected technician, leader, mentor, and friend. After retirement he spent time cooking and baking for friends and family. He also spent countless hours helping to organize and establish the NJANG 177th Fighter Wing Reunion Association. As a lifetime member, he served as their first President, and subsequently as their secretary until December 2015. He was a lifetime member and past Commander of American Legion post 430. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend. Visitation for friends and relatives will be held at the Lowenstein-Saraceno Funeral Home in Galloway NJ from 10:00 to11:00 am on Wednesday, 18 May 2016. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow at the Atlantic County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. The family respectfully requests donations to the American Cancer Society or your favorite military veterans support charity in lieu of flowers.
