Lawrence C. Burd, age 85 of Little Egg Harbor passed away April 13, 2021 at his home. Born in Tuckerton he was the son of late Malcolm R. Burd Sr. and Anna E. Driscoll Burd. Larry was a supervisor for the Ocean County Road Department and retired after 38 years. He served our country honorably in the US Navy from 1955-1959 and served aboard the USS Thuban. He was a former Chief, life member and commissioner for the West Tuckerton Volunteer Fire Company as well as holding membership in many local organizations including the NJ State Fire Chief’s Assoc. (life member), NJ Firemen’s Assoc. (life member), NJ Division of Parks and Forestry: District Warden, ARRL National Assoc., Past member of Improved Order of the Redmen Pohatcong Tribe #61, Past member Tuckerton Ist Aid Squad, Past member VFW Post 3512, Past member Civic Service CB Club, Past Service as a special police officer for Tuckerton Boro and Little Egg Harbor. Larry received the VFW Post 316 Outstanding Firemen Award in 1986 and enjoyed fishing, Ham Radio, Echo link, gardening and taking trips to North Carolina.Larry is predeceased by his sister Shirley Whealton and his brother Malcolm R. Burd Jr., and is survived by his wife of 65 years Joanne C. Heinsohn Burd, his daughters Susan Lescure (Clark), Emily Kathleen Burd, Laura Tangney (William), and Lisa Burd, grandchildren Rebecca Lescure, Sandra Fluellen (Jamar), and Quinn Malcolm Tangney, great grandchildren Madison Grace, Alexis Grace, Kira Fluellen and a great grandson expected in May, nieces and nephews Keith Whealton (Kim), Karen Bryant (Randy), Kevin Whealton (Pat), Otto Patrick Bochow and Joseph Bochow. Private graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery Tuckerton NJ. Kindly make donations to the West Tuckerton Volunteer Fire Company.
