Murray D Gegner
December 17, 2015
Murray D. Gegner, PhD, was born in Bronx, NY in 1924. He and his wife Mae (nee Zeltner) moved to Margate, NJ in 1956 where they lived for 54 years until they moved to Springhouse, PA. Dr. Gegner was in private practice as a marriage and family counselor and sex therapist for 50 years and became a pillar of the Margate community. He was the first director of the Big Brother's Association, he founded and chaired the Juvenile Conference Committee of Margate and also founded and presided over the Atlantic County Diabetes Society. He proudly served his country in WWII and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge. While serving he captured 2 German soldiers single-handedly, and although under instructions to "take no prisoners", he turned them in and told them to "always remember that a Jew spared their lives". Dr. Gegner touched the lives of countless people through his counseling practice, the schools, committees and associations he founded and/or served in and through his personal love that he so generously conveyed to all he encountered. His vanity license plate of "GIV LUV" was a credo he lived by. He set an example of the highest order to his family and his community and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter Barbara, his son Steven and daughter-in-law Deborah and grandchildren Ryan, Calin, Brandon, Michelle, Robert and Corey. They will all cherish his memory as a blessing. Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service on Friday Dec. 18th at 3:15 PM at Rodef Shalom Cemetery, 6691 Black Horse Pike, Egg Harbor, NJ 08234. Shiva will be observed for one day directly following the service at his daughter Barbara's home at 4303 Atlantic Ave., Atlantic City, NJ 08401.
